Conflict free crossing at 23rd Street and 9th Avenue: This dangerous crossing on the East side of 9th Avenue is now SAFE for pedestrians. DOT removed a left turn option for cars and was able to give 30 seconds to pedestrians to cross without any conflicts with cars. This is an enormous relief to Penn South seniors who must cross this street to catch the cross town bus .
Longer crossing times at 57th Street and 9th Avenue: The south side now provides 34 seconds of crossing time, or 2.0ft/second. The north side provides 55 seconds of crossing time or 1.23ft/second (an adult walks at a speed of 4ft/second). This will relieve pedestrian congestion and allow children and seniors a safer crossing.
