Vulnerable Users Bill introduced in Albany

CHEKPEDS applauds the bill which was announced Thursday by Senator Daniel Squadron and Assembly Member Brian Kavanagh. They were joined at City Hall by Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, whose staff helped write the draft, and Transportation Alternatives. The Martinez Diego and Ng Hayley law would establish the offense of careless driving, and would define pedestrians, cyclists, road workers and others as “vulnerable users ” of public thoroughfares. Martin Treat was on hand to show our support . Indeed we are anxious to see penalties proportionate with the crimes, but the priority is to change mindsets and set the stage with a winnable bill.
