Five years ago CB4 asked the DOT to reclaim parking spaces at intersections and install on-street bike parking . These are  especially appropriate for 9th and 8th Avenues where large number of  delivery bicycles compete with pedestrians on very narrow sidewalks.  In addition such parking provide for “daylighting” or impriving visibility for turning vehicles.

These installations are inexpensive compared to the earlier option of extending the sidewalk. The first such “corral” has been installed in Brooklyn and we will be sure to ask for a fewof them in Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen. Tell us below if you want one at the corner of your street!
