The world cup brings an extraordinary transporation challenge for New York City. Mayor Mamdani stepped up to his affordability platform by bringing 18,000 fans to the games in school buses for $ 20 each.
After reviewing the City and Port Authority plans, I am pleasantly surprised that NO bus will use 9th Avenue to access the Lincoln Tunnel.
There are two major bus centers for fans in our neighborhood: one on the east side of Columbus circle, one on 41st Street under the Port Authority, between 8th and 9th.
At Columbus circle, buses will be staged on West 58th street (7 to 9) and Central Park South (5 to 8). The buses will use eastbound 57th Street to reach 5th Avenue, go south on 5th and turn west on 42nd Street. After traveling on 42nd Street until Dyer Avenue, they will turn south into the Lincoln Tunnel. 6th Avenue northbound will be used for the return trip.
At the Port authority, buses will be staged on West 40th (8-11) and 41st (8-10) Streets. They will reach the Lincoln Tunnel by way of West 41st adn making a left into the tunnel either on Dyer Avenue or Gavin Plaza.
NYPD will deploy two traffic agents and a traffic officer at each intersection on 9th, 10th and 11th Avenues and our portion of West 42nd Street.
