With the Worldcup comes an extraordinary transporation challenge for New York City. Mayor Mamdani stepped up to the affordability challenge: bringing 18,000 fans to the games in school buses for $ 20 each.
After reviewing the City and Port Authority plans, I am pleasantly surprised that NO bus will use 9th Avenue to access the Lincoln Tunnel.
There are two major terminals in our neighborhood: one on the east side of Columbus circle, one on 41st Street under the Port Authority, between 8th and 9th.
At Columbus circle, bus will be staged on West 58th street (7 to 9) and Central Park South (5 to 8). The buses will use eastbound 57th street to reach 5th avenue , go south on 5th and turn West on 42nd street. They will travel on 42nd street until Dyer Avenue, where they will turn south into the Tunnel. They will return on 6th Avenue northbound.
At the Port authority, buses will be staged on west 40th (8-11) and west 41st (8-10). The buses will use west 41st to make a left into the tunnel either on Dyer avenue and Gavin Plaza
NYPD will deploy two traffic agents and a traffic officer at each intersection on 9th, 10th 11th Avenue and our portion of west 42nd street.
