It’s Official: Sidewalk ATMs are illegal!

Community Board 4 testified at a City Council Transportation Committee Hearings on sidewalk ATMs. Borough President Scott Stringer’s office had published a report last summer and initiated a wave of enforcement activity.

DOT confirmed they were illegal. Period. Sidewalk ATMs  break the city code that requires property owners to keep the sidewalk free of obstructions.

Anyone can call 311 where there is now a procedure for sidewalk ATMs. Calls get directed to the DOT and summons are issued after a warning period. Then  the ATM will be removed. (no one told us who keeps the money inside!)
