Besides the numerous barricades and construction staging areas, that have appeared between W 37th and W 39th Streets, the Port Authoirty held a breaking ground ceremony with both Governors – who claimed to be best pals. They were joined by New Jersey and New York elected officials and Manhattan Community Board 4.

Further the PA board just awarded the contract for the construction of both the ramps and Staging and Storage Facilities ( SSF) buildings between 11th Avenue and Dyer Avenue, (39/40). We are talking billions – which makes it all very real.

Here are some links to refresh your memory:

  • See the Overall project  from W 37th to W 42nd Street, 8th to 11th Avenue. No demolition, no displacement.
  • Deck overs Dyer Avenue to become a 3.4 acre park  37th to 39th street west of the existing 9th Avenue buildings
  • New ramp structure so that no bus travels on our streets to access the terminal.
  • Bus storage facility so that no bus is stored on the street or on parking lots during the day. – terminal is equipped with chargers for electric buses – no more idling
  • All ground floor space along the three buildings will be lined up with stores – no dead walls
  • All sidewalks along the three buildings will be much wider and include trees every 25 ft.
  • Construction is in phases
    • Deck overs – 2 years ( started)
    • Ramps and storage – 4 years (contract awarded – probable start in 2026)
    • New terminal – 4 years. (when storage is completed)

We continue to be concerned with the removal of a mid-block pedestrian crossing on WE 37th street between 9th and 10th Avenues at a location where there is no line of sight between pedestrians and cars. We have elevated the issue to DOT and our elected officials. Please be extra careful when leaving the supermarket Brooklyn Fare.
