Yes it is a mess, but with a silver lining! Have you noticed how slow the drivers go? the avenue is much less intimidating and feel safer for pedestrians. This is way less expensive than speed bumps, speed cameras and NYPD.
But the big payoff is yet to come. A super-sidewalk, wider bike lane, bus lane, expanded pedestrian refuges and bike parking are all coming with the resurfacing. Here is a rendering of the end game. Definitely worth the pain.
