Manhattan Community Board gave the Department of Information Technology its preferences for the RFI under way for a future phone booths. The current franchise contract expires in 2014. Many neighbors showed up at the committee hearings to speak of installations they would like to see removed.
The letter offers many suggestions about services (WiFi) appearance (slim, unobtrusive without overhang) and approval process (include Community Board). It also focuses on placement (away from corners, no more than one per two sided block) and in certain areas, plain removal.
