Council Member Erik Bottcher is leading the crusade to remove pedestrian obstacles from crowded sidewalks , and we could not be happier.
This week, the Council Member introduced a bill , Intro 810, to improve the oversight of the news box industry and ensure that the boxes are properly built and maintained in locations that do not impede pedestrians. Various Business Improvement Districts, Open Plans and Chekpeds joined him at the press conference.
With the transition to digital , too many boxes are empty, used for other purposes and left in the right of way. Many of them are a receptacle for garbage which is not healthy. These are the cumulative small details that make a city livable or not and the sidewalk walkable or not.
