Take Action: File Complaints with NJ Transit Buses

Every weekday afternoon our neighborhood is overrun by New Jersey Transit buses: they congest our streets, block our crosswalks, and ruin our quality of life. This problem is not just a nuisance it is a pedestrian safety issue.

We have reached out to the NYPD for assistance and have seen little improvement. It’s time for us to take a different approach, and the first step is to begin filing formal complaints with New Jersey Transit. Every time you witness a New Jersey Transit bus creating an unsafe traffic condition file a complaint on the NJT website

NJT bus Information
Be sure to include the date and time of the incident, the route and bus number, and as much detail as possible, the form also allows you to include an attachment, so take pictures. Keep track of the complaint information in case its needed at a later date. You can log the complaint # in the comments section of this post . The more complaints we lodge with New Jersey Transit the stronger our case will be when we request assistance from New Jersey Transit and our elected officials in finally resolving this dangerous situation. So start filing complaints and share this information with your networks.

    I am not a resident of Newark however, I am employed in the city . Went to the bank during lunch borrowing my coworkers bus card . On my way back from Santander on William and Broad streets. I made my way to the bus stop nest to Marriott Hotel . I ran to the bus stop which is kinda in front of the Newark finance office 828 Broad St. The bus drove right by mean and stopped and let passengers off in front of 810 Broad St. The indigo Hotel at the traffic light. This made me have to run farther and faster because light was green and wasn’t going to wait.. I asked the driver I’m not sure why you didn’t stop for me and he said that is not the bus stop I bee driving the bus for 20 yrs . I stated sir this is not the bus stop I have caught the bus before at the designated bus stop with a booth and seating . So I’m asking the bus driver questions not trying to argue and he made me ask the question more than once before he would answer and since there was an issue with the bus stop I asked what is the next stop which where I wanted to get off at and he didn’t want to tell me although I pushed the stop request button he finally yelled at me with a general answer . not pleasant not nice I’m not even sure I was dealing with a public service worker . Just rude and discourteous. 20 years of service and this is the product results. YOU- NJ Transit should be ashamed . I am not old and I unfortunately loss my mom in 5/2018 and it just made me reflect on her difficulties as and aged individual using public transportation . This driver surely should know better and should be called to the carpet for his madness…. He wouldn’t not be able to do this in an affluent area they would not stand for it and we shouldn’t either.. so appalling!!! THIS IS A GAME TO THE DRIVERS MAKE PEOPLE RUN AND JUST MISTREAT FOR NO REAL REASON

    Newark Penn station needs intense cleaning, the homeless situation in the bus line is becoming unbearable, you can’t breathe waiting for your bus in Newark due to the abhor sent of the homeless in the station. Something need to be done. Its unacceptable, iam getting tired of not being able to breathe in the station, it smells like dead carcass. It’s unsanitary and we should not be paying for this kind of service.

    I take the 197 to new York at Preakness ave and valley road,
    today, January 4,2019,I waited for the 197 bus at 6:32at Valley road and Preakness ave ,
    The 6:32 bus did not show up, the 6;45 bus did not show up, A bus came at 6:53 but was full, the next bus came at 7am and I was able to get on he bus,
    It is too cold to be waiting at the bus stop for so long a wait for the bus,
    Can you look into this,

    I waited an hour for the 72 bus that never showed up. It was very dangerous at the Broadway terminal in Paterson. The 11;20, 11:50, 12:20 bus to Newark Penn Station never showed up. Its on the schedule. The station wa closed could not get any information at all. This is not right. If you going to schedule routes you should let me know.

    Yes I was coming from the airport I work there and I was waiting for the number 39 bus in front of that Israel waiting for the 1023 which did not come until after 10:45 not only that but once I got on the bus because I was asking the bus driver why it was so late it’s very nasty ignored me at first and I start talking to a woman next to me and she said this particular driver driving bus number 6385 was very rude to other people but I’m very appalled that I’m tired and when I push the button to get off the bus he wrote deliberately past my stop and let me off on Leslie and Chancellor I wanted to get off on Summit Avenue and Chancellor I’m just appalled how I now have a 62 year old woman had to walk back up to Summit Avenue in the cold late at night by myself because of this bus driver being very rude please do something with this bus driver it’s not the first time that he’s that people have told me he’s a terrible terrible bus driver your customer service as far as I’m concerned it’s horrible and I will be sending a Written Letter to head out the New Jersey Transit to CEO my name is Rhonda Hughes I live at 81 Summit Avenue Newark New Jersey 07112 again get rid of that guy Not only was he a half hour late but when I asked him about it he deliberately ignores me and then when we push the button to get off at Summit Avenue he rides deliberately pass my stop telling me all I was so busy talking that you know I didn’t ring the bell in time I rang the bell as soon as I got on the bus because the next stop I’m not assume I’m sorry not as soon but as soon as we passed Osborne Terrace I rang the bell for Summit Avenue I hope to hear back from you my number is 862-371-3212 thank you

    I got on the 70 bus from Vauxhall coming home from work bus number 6386 young female very very rude she had an attitude when me and my brother got on the bus the bus wasn’t that crowded maybe eight passengers as I stepped on the bus she started yelling get in the bus move in move in she screaming to the top of her lungs when I stepped in she pulled off I lost balance I slid Midway to the back of the bus everybody screaming my brother grabbed me I am 53 years old never had a broken bone in my life I fractured my fingers on my right hand trying to hold on and she was speeding off from the bus stop where we got on she was rude I wanted to pay she wouldn’t let me pay she told she waved her hand at me and told me to move away from her as to say I don’t know her name and I want something done she was very rude very rude if someone can please call me at 973-391-3301 to resolve this case something has to be done about this girl she was driving that bus very crazy slamming on the brakes making sudden stops also heard from other passengers that she’s stopped to use the bathroom and left the bus for about 10 or 15 minutes I don’t know that but that’s what they were telling us me and my brother please do something about this driver she’s going to kill someone driving that bus that way thank you Karrell Scott

    The 70 bus that leaves Livingston mall at 2:30.. the bus driver needs and attitude check and is always leaving before her time.. it’s not time for her to pull off sees you walking and most times running towards the bus and keeps on driving.. she need to be talked too

    I have file 3 Complaints and each time your reply, that it will be sent the supervisor. The 168 bus is the only bus I can take to and from work. This morning 3/27/2019 the bus never showed up. I buy a bus pass every month for $60.00 and forced to pay for other transportation. The first bus is due at my stop at 8:09 am. The only driver that is on time is the young lady with the orange scarf. NY buses comes every 15 min sometimes 2 at the same time, But I work in NJ, I don’t feel that’s right for an NJ bus company can’t get the residents of NJ to work on time, and back home… Sometimes it’s the same thing on the way home. You should put 2 buses for the am run just in case the other bus get’s in trouble with traffic or whatever. Please fix this problem.

    Bus number 6302 driving on w market St @ 9:45 am on April 20th is a reckless driver. Cutting across lanes no signal. Cut me off causing product on my truck to become damaged. This driver should be formally reprimanded and sent for safety training

    The bus driver did not stop at the station 16781 is the number of the bus stop the bus is 553 time 6:45 AM he kept on driving to Atlantic City he made no attempt to stop the bus He or she may know attempt to stop the bus at the bus stop thank you

    Bus number 5679 route 74 at 6:00pm this bus driver speeding driving erratically past my stop I had run catch at a light I asked u didn’t see me in the bus stop no apology she said u didn’t see how fast I was going bad customer service and not my fault u was speeding she could at least apologize then said I was going to fast doing about 35 to 40 miles hr oin a 25 zone please send me a comment just want her get warning or what ever ya do fine thank you

    The 7165 bus heading to Willowbrook Mall completely cut me off with no blinker into the fast lane at the Route 3 to route 46 merge which is a dangerous place to drive as is. Then the bus driver continued to drive recklessly at 75 miles per hour tailgating the car in front of it in the fast lane. Driver made multiple lane changes without using blinker. This driver is dangerous for me as I NJ driver and for the passengers on the bus. Unacceptable.

On Tuesday July 9th appromimately 2:40 pm i was crossing over to 7-11 at South Carolina Ave n Atlantic Ave to get on 505 inlet there was a vechicle parked in front of the 7-11 so i stood by the bus stop sign n waived at the female driver. Upon her opening the doors she stated why i stood there n i replied i was trying to cross n that car is parked there she stated well next time i ain’t stopping i stated to her please just keep driving n do your job she stopped the bus n made me get off while 2 other passengers stated profanity remarks to me saying I’ll slap you n knock your teeth out. The bus number 1613. Black female glasses long braids. She should be more proffessional n respectively. Made me late for work.

    For the last couples of months I been traveling troughs the public
    transportations (NJ transit) tose are buses # 166, 165, 156, 84 Park Ave, 83, 88, 89, most of the drivers are nice, very polite a helpful to the clients, but the drivers of the bus 154 toward Fort Lee bus # 5229 after 10:00am is the worst driver that work in NJ Transit, he is aggressive, unrepeatable, racist to the Spanish even that he is Spanish
    I’m a senior and I consider myself very educated I always say good morning rich he never answered, I always say thank you , please, excúseme and get alone with everybody.
    But with this driver is the second time that I have a problem the first time was sometime in May, I suppose to get off at Edgewater Ave Garfias NJ but I request to stop then I noticed that is an Stop before just a block away from each other.
    Then I said I’m sorry is the next one, I just was me on the bus a this driver flip out, he told me this is going to be last time that you do that you suppose to know where you suppose to get off.
    As I saw feed more argument with another’s passengers I tried to avoid get this bus again, but last week July 3 2019, I missed the 159 then I got the 84 Bergenline with a transfer and I get the 154 with the same driver, I said good morning he didn’t answer, and as soon he saw the transfer receive he told me you have to give $.35 more when I asked why he said because this is not valid.
    Then I respond why not I just get off from the other bus!
    Well I don’t even know which bus is that.
    Like I said before I try to avoid the arguments in public I got the $.35 and gave to him.
    But like I said before he has arguments before with others passengers one time this very old lady told him can you stop in this street, he said you have to press the yellow line then she said but the problem is that I can see to good!
    He answered them you have to bring somebody with you, in another time this men asked him a questions in Spanish and he said I’m sorry I don’t speak Spanish when he is Spanish and very rude.

    I take the 744 every morning between 7:20 AM and 8:0p; however, I am lucky if the bus even shows up. This is the 17th incidence in the past two months. My stop number is 27503 and the 744 is listed as one of the available buses, but that still doesn’t stop the bus from frequently showing up late or not showing up at all. If you ask the bus drivers about their tardiness, they’ll get angry. I am sick of this service, sick of this bus, and sick of the inactivity in regards to fixing this situation.

  26. NJ Transit bus entered in our private property to make U-turn entering from 136 Cottage Street, Jersey City and demolish half of the retaining wall between us and back yard of other property in the morning hours. The driver did not bother to stop neither he call the police, he just took off!
    I keep trying to get hold of some one so I can file a claim, unfortunately all the avenue having dead end!
    Finally I got phone # 973-491-8787 for claims but no live person to take a claim!

    While coming through the tunnel on New York side right before the entrance bus driver cut me off push me into the cones I had to go around her and tried to stop her they put a scratch on my vehicle these drivers drive like maniacs cause they got a 20 t vehicle over our 2 t vehicles it’s not right

    Traffic violation and very aggressive bus driving complaint.
    I was driving to my job on I-78 with my personal car this morning.
    A very aggressive bus driver cut my way off from the outside the lane and tried to pass me by driving along a shoulder and cutting me off right before the on the exit 58 A on I -78 Expressway. He drove very dangerously and aggressive he kept coming back and tailgate me for almost 2-3minutes. I got very scared and panicked It was seriously life-threatening. I honked 1 minute long to warn him that I was driving next to him. I started recording with my cell phone as soon as understood that the driver was very aggressive. He tried to kill me. I am attaching pictures and I can also send you the video I have. I would like to put a complaint about the driver. He should not be driving like he did this morning. He can cause very serious accidents since he is carrying a lot of passengers. This case must be investigated and the driver must be fired. This person was insane he doesn’t care about anyone in the traffic he can cause serious accidents.

    I just move here to Jeresy city like 5 months and I come across to 119 bus always pack and passes by and takes long to come again. Made a complaint and still haven’t received a call back. Now today I usually don’t wait for the bus on Hancock I usual get it on palisade ave I showed my card fare and the bus driver ask where I was going I’m going to ny. After riding the bus like five stop passes she tells me to get off the bus I said why I told you where I was going I showed my fare. She stated I was zone 3 like how the hell it would matter from two stop from zone two she assist of kicking me off the bus I ask for her name and badge for treating me like if I didn’t pay which she left me one stop before the tunnel. Making me late for work a hour and half I’m a single mother and people who work and pay fare and bills should be embraced or treated this way

    Today 02/24/2020 i was driving behing bus 6314 and the driver never use the designated bus stop driver was picking and dropping passangers on the middle of the road causing a masive traffic congestion, why have bus stops if drivers are not using them ,try to file a complaint online but website request some bs information about the bus origen and destination

    On 3/17/2020, between 5pm & 5:10pm @ the bus stop near the intersection of Klockner Rd & E State St Ext, the 608 bus driver had several of the front seats taped off so no one could sit there. Guess he was social distancing. But by his actions he was causing passengers to be bunched together. When as a society will we come together and stop thinking only of ourselves, especially in times of crisis.

    Some of the New Jersey Transit Bus Drivers is very ignorant, selfish and only worried about their own safety. Because, they’re not just blocking off the six inches away seats from themselves. But, also the eight handicap seats. Which leaves less seats for passengers. So, the new rule from NJ Transit Company is that, the drivers is telling all the passengers. They can’t pick up no more then thirty people. But, when it get crowded & people isn’t safe on the bus at this point. Because, passengers now is standing on the bus steps and standing over and breathing over each other heads. But, the bus driver’s is nice secured & safe. How is the passengers safe from catching this coronavirus when those eight seats could be let down for more seating room. So, my question is this a NJ Transit New Rule as well. To jeopardize crowded passengers health packed at the back of the bus like “Sardines” or is it the bus drivers rule. To caution tape off the eight handicap seats to protect the bus driver health.

    175 going towards New York GW bridge Bus driver constantly passing too early and even flying past passenger waving to signal to stop. This morning it happened again and I am an essential worker need to be at work and this driver didn’t stop but speeded right by. I was told the female driver has been told to slow down many times before and pick up passenger on the regular bus schedule. Apparently she doesn’t care! Immediate attention and correction needs to be addressed.

    Nj train ridings has conductors that in every train close 2-4 cats in the train chatting Abd leave riders setting in each seat no distance, so what they can get Corona as a punishment for them to go to essential work, this happened all the times so northeast coast train 5:07 and 6:07 ( sometimes ) from Penn station I’m talking about ladies conductors one day and male conductor all the days, save us from this nh transit medically And psychologically.

    I am currently on the 137 bus from Port Authority to Toms River the bus left Port Authority at 7:15pm. there is a very bad heavy turpentine smell or something else it is so pungent my wife and I are getting really bad headaches right now.!!!

    Your buses at Penn Station Newark refuses to identify what route number the bus is running on without posting it on the bus. They are very rude to pasengers and are giving me a 58 year old man a difficult time identifying the bus and pulling off. The number 5 at around 7:30 to 7:50 pm is deliberately doing this and the 70 bus between 7 @nd 8:00. Its always the nasty African Americans I hate to say because am black but they being to nasty and rude to passengers.

    I take the bus every day to work. For the most part, the ride is nothing less than superb. As covid 19 has put a damper on the country, I still rode nj transit via bus, path, and light rail. I have never been treated with as much disrespect as I have faced this morning. The driver yelled, “Get away from the door,” when I tried to show him my ticket. The man had been regularly rude to clients and is sincerely unapologetic I have had other run ins with him ordering me to take a seat when trying to find a seat and asking him to turn off the lights during a dawn trek. Please respond by removing this man as I am almost about to stop taking the bus entirely due to the disrespect. I am on the bus 7649. I took the bus on route 163 from Summit Ave and Central Ave at 5:18 this morning. Please remove this man from this route. He has been repeatedly rude to myself and other passengers.

    The 521 to long branch train was 20 minutes late today customers were left freezing with no information waiting while the board counted down to 0 minutes and the train disappeared from the board. Then a few minutes later it appeared back on the board again with no information. You’ve got to do better than this especially with blocking off the seating area

    I am not sure if the NJ Transit is working Camden County Police Department but they have been cutting me off turning up in all places I am along with the police and cab companies. They white transit truck with supervisor seems to be following me all over the place. I have pictures. When the supervisor truck notice I am taking pictures they drive off quickly trying to get away to avoid me from taking their picture or licenses plate. Something illegal is going on just like Police, Fireman Lawyers and Doctors were involved in that mess in Washington. Im sure its not so far fetch here to say the least. Im making a complaint with Internal Affairs as well. I cant understand why cameras are use for solving crimes by civilians but not for illegal harrassment among your staff going along with the police for harrassment. The police station is in downtown Camden NJ I know for a fact that the cab drivers, bus drivers and police are in on harrrassing me to get back at me for reporting police officers to Internal Affairs Retalation just as Im writing tthis so has tracked my phone and follow me all around everywhere. NJ Transit is involved just all no goods were involved with that maylay at the Capitol they werent the ordinary criminals they are NJ Transit working and doing illegal harrassment with the police.

    NJ Bus 195 leaving the Port Authority at 8:20 PM from gate 234 Door # 1 was allowed, by the dispatcher, to depart without picking a single person on a line of apprx 15 people awaiting said bus at door #1 post the rush hour. This has cause great inconvenience to people waiting on that line, with no manager owing up to this terrible mis management.
    Seating a response prior to taking any other steps.

    I Rode on the 107 from Port Authority at 11:25 pm Thursday night on Bus #5860. Not only didn’t he know where he was going we came close to colliding with 2 vehicles while lost near Clinton Street heading to Elizabeth Avenue and Lyon Street. The dispatcher called in to tell he bus driver to stop the bus in order to reroute and he said he’ll give us all transfers to catch another bus. Half the people on the bus didn’t know where they were after 12 midnight. This happened on 4/1/21 on, again, the 11:25pm bus heading to Irvington Terminal. He said it was an Express bus and he completely bypassed the Newark Airport Terminals stops, and that’s how most of us on the bus knew he was lost. Very unsafe and scary because the bus almost capsized as he was forced to brake in order not to hit the two vehicles.
