Last week, the Department of Transportation did a major upgrade to two Open Streets in Chelsea. Some of the broken down and defensive barricades were replaced with large planters. DOT even provided assistance to plant flowers and bushes. Above is W22nd Street @ 8th Avenue , and below is W21st Street at 9th Avenue. This is a terrific improvement that sends a strong message to drivers. ” Slow Down”. The DOT continues to explore additional street modifications to ensure the permanent Open streets are easier to manage with less resources. Congratulations to the activists who dedicate their time to managing the Open Streets and making space for their neighbors .
Congratulations on a great look. However, I do not see the purpose for these closures. Perhaps there should also be NO parking. Why are cats still there???
Forgive spell check on comment from d beard. I intended to sat CARS not Cats.
This gives ,a lot of safe space to pedestrians and bicycles
Noticed the planters on Saturday, 11/13, great improvement over having 3 barriers. They also enhance the look of the street. Thank you from a resident of 22nd street.
